Where to stay in Cisternino, Puglia
Cisternino - one of our favourite places in Puglia. Like its sisters Ceglie Messapica, Locorotondo and Martina Franca, it's one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"), full of the iconic trulli, and beautiful whitewashed buildings throughout the centro storico (historical centre). Cisternino is one of Italy's 'slow food' towns, due to its commitment to gastronomic traditions, like the butchers you choose your meat from - who will then cook it for you and serve it to you on tables outside.
The quadrangular Torre Grande was built by the Normans as a natural vista over the Valle d'Itria. Today, you can enjoy the simply bellissimo panorama from the belvedere behind the Villa Communale. But our favourite thing to do is to get lost and explore. You'll undoubtedly find yourself in the Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, with its clock tower - a lovely spot for an aperitif and to watch the town life.
