Where to stay in Brindisi, Puglia
For a long time, we thought Brindisi was just somewhere that you fly in and out of Puglia. But no - it's so much more than that! Somewhat eclipsed by the 'prettier' Pugliese towns like Ostuni and Cisternino, Brindisi actually has lots to offer.
The feel of the place is quite unique for Puglia - think wide, tree-lined boulevards, a really lovely seafront promenade with restaurants and bars, lots of winding streets to explore, and of course, plenty of great baroque architecture. It's no wonder that there's a more expansive vibe here, as for centuries Brindisi has been a crucial land and sea link - founded by the Greeks, the Roman Appian Way finished here, and now it's a major port for tourists going to and from Greece and Albania.
Walking from the station, take Corso Umberto, past the fountain in Piazza Cairoli, then join Corso Garibaldi along to the waterfront. This lovely walk will take you under trees, on wide pedestrianised sidewalks, and past some excellent bars, cafes and restaurants - perfect for your early evening passagiata.
